Drama Digest

The movie is an adaptation of an investigation novel by Yoko Yuzuki. It is called ‘Prosecutor, Sakata’ and ‘Engrave a grudge.’ The story is about a prosecutor named Sakata Sadato, who works in Yonesaki District Public Prosecutor’s Office. He is pretty a hardworking and passionate person who only worries about providing justice. He comes across the investigation records of an incident that had involvement of his childhood friend, Takemiya Miki. According to her statement, Murota Kimiko, who works in a traditional Japanese inn, was the culprit. Reports said that Miki saw her in a parking spot when she collected her young daughter, who studies in elementary school. Later, there was also evidence found in Kimiko’s home, and she was immediately arrested. Sakata found Miki’s statement suspicious as the school remained closed that day in celebration of sports day, which was on the previous day. As passing by the school route was the daily routine for Sakata, he was sure that he didn’t see or hear any kids coming back home. Despite two previous charges held against Kimiko, which she openly accepted, she was reluctant and kept denying the charges this time and argued her innocence. Soon into the investigation, there was an envelope that was delivered to the Prosecutor’s office which stated that the evidence against Kimiko was fabricated. Sakata then teams up with the assistant officer Hanaoko Naoko and soon learns from Kojo Nobuaki, a section head at the community safety division at the Yonesaki Nishi Police Precinct, that Kimiko often visited Miki’s bar, and they were familiar with each other. It wasn’t long enough when Sakata was asked to turn down the investigation by the Deputy Chief Prosecutor because he did not like the involvement of the police in his investigation cases. Will Sakata continue his research despite the upcoming conflicts? Is Miki plotting something secretly? Watch the movie for better details.

The Feel-Good Part

The film is quite interesting to watch and has a good plot in it. Sakata making sure he wasn’t creating a mistake and checking the investigation repeatedly is very dutiful. This is precisely how detectives and police should offer their duties. The story was quite confusing at first but then opened up a deeply interesting story.

The Disappointing Factor

The characters seem very rushed and require work on them. They lacked sound effects which could have made the film even more enjoyable.

In-Depth Analysis

Sakata is a curious person and runs toward justice at any cost. His determination towards his duty is fascinating to watch. Miki’s suspicious behavior is quite canny as one can’t figure out if she’s the bad guy or not. The film also has a good amount of suspense in it. The screenplay is nicely done.

Star Power

Kamikawa Takaya played the role of Sakata Sadato, Matsushita Yuki as Shoji Mao, Takimoto Miori as Hanaoko Naoko, Harada Ryuji as Kojo Nobuaki, Horii Arata as Takanshi Shoichi, Otoha as Murota Kimiko, Uchida Chika as Taekmiya Miki, Matsuo Takashi as Mohotashi Shinjiro and Ibu Masato as Tsutsui Yoshio. Kamikawa did an excellent job. He is very passionate and determined. I liked his character a lot. Feelings like these are super interesting to watch. Miki’s character felt overplayed. But well, the supporting cast did great and played their roles well.

Overall Opinion

If you like movies that have good suspense in them, then this is a good watch.
