The original series Kotaro wa Hitorigurashi is about a 5-year-old boy named Kotaro Sato. An unpopular manga writer named Shin Karino lives in the same apartment as Kotaro Sato. The apartment does not allow children to live there hence; it surprised Karino that Kotaro is staying there. Soon after, he finds out that Kotaro lives by himself. Kotaro annoyed residents of the building at first, but later developed an attachment with him. The spin-off Hanawa Sensei Wa Hanninmae will show the life of Hanawa Keisuke, who is a new teacher at the kindergarten that Kotaru attends. It also includes the other characters in the original show.
