The Feel-Good Part
The best way to describe “You Are So Sweet” would be as a cute and fluffy rom-com. The story is rather simple and has all the traditional elements of a love story. You don’t really have to think too hard when you watch this show. It was a really interesting concept to introduce how the dubbing world works. It is always nice when the writers diversify their concepts. The actors have done a decent job in portraying their characters. The pacing of the drama is just right for stretching across 24 episodes. The outfits worn by the actors in this drama were very cute. They all matched the characters and their personalities very well.
The Disappointing Factor
Although the drama is adorable in the beginning, the plot does progress properly till the end. The story has a cute premise but the scriptwriters did not explore any more possibilities beyond that. It is the usual push-pull strategy with the love triangle and the misunderstandings. Yet, even here they failed miserably. The love triangle never develops fully. It is not clear how the female lead feels about the second male lead and her relationship with the main lead is just too stoic. Even the supporting characters are so poorly written that they provide no relief to the main plot. The actors did well in their individual characters but their chemistry with others was barely present. There was nothing exemplary in the series that would make it memorable in any way.
In-Depth Analysis
The reason why “You Are So Sweet” works is simply because it is a no-strings-attached series to watch. You don’t have to overthink anything and just binge the entire series with or without breaks. It is predictable so you don’t miss out on anything even if you stop and watch it after some time. But this doesn’t take much away from the latent charm the story has. If you ignore all the obvious shortcomings you will pretty much enjoy the show. The songs are good. The plot has the usual 3-Act structure so you won’t be too shocked by abrupt developments.
Star Power
We have ex-SpeXial member Zhao Zhi Wei playing the role of the male lead Chen Yu. In the role of the female lead, we have the popular actress Amy Sun. Both of them did a decent job with their characters but failed to create that irresistible spark in their romance. In the secondary leads, we have Li Xiang Zhe as Xie Fei and Chen Shi Min as Jin Yao. In their case, we would say that the writers did not give their characters as much personality apart from the roles they played in order to give the main leads a push.
Overall Opinion
“You Are So Sweet” is another run-off-the-mill series without any defining moment to its name. But, on slow days it is a nice option to binge-watch when you don’t want to exert too much brain energy.
