Drama Digest

The series is a continuation to S1, and the review contains a few spoilers. The ending of S1 is a cliff-hanger wherein Yan and the original writer confront each other.

Yan’s friend Zheng Xiong lays low, pretending to be insane while he searches for clues about the original writer. Finally, as Yan had mentioned, Xiong uncovers the writer’s true identity. His name is Liu Yang. He is also known as the Yellow Scorpion.

Slowly and steadily, Xiong traps Yang in his game of wits. Yang is exhausted from the constant psychological attacks by Xiong and shares all his actions from the last decade and the immense cost he has paid for it.

Yang has a back story wherein he loses his daughter Liu Sirui to a mental illness. This changes Yang and is the reason for all his actions.

In the process, Xiong realizes that Yang’s story is more complicated than it seems. There is a sneaky organization at play.

Who is this organization? What is their connection with Yang and his daughter?

Xiong has to solve all these mysteries before it is too late

The Feel-Good Part

The unique, visual story-telling continues in S2. In addition, the suspense continues as the true mastermind is revealed in this season.

But the focus is more on highlighting an essential aspect of society and its implication for people (if ignored). This also brings a more sensitive side to the villain and our heart goes out to the person. The reasons behind the actions are more apparent.

While there is no music, the sound effects add value to the mystique.

The Disappointing Factor

The focus is more on the dialogues and performances, making the pace slower than S1.

In-Depth Analysis

There is a proverb all is not it seems. Behind every façade is a hidden reality.

The climax of S1 was a cliff-hanger that left the viewers wanting for more. S2 is an extension from S1 and introduces us to the back stories of certain characters from S1.

While the theme continues, the key difference between the two seasons is that S1 focuses on introducing the viewers to the experience and S2 focuses on the psychological and mental consequences of the character’s actions. But there is a logical connection between S1 and S2.

Xiong continues Yan’s journey in S2. He acts crazy while searching for the original writer.  He has the clues and Yan’s predictions on the writer. He uses both to discover the writer’s real identity.

The writer is Liu Yang, and the experiences written (from S1) are his activities in the last decade set forth by the loss of his daughter to mental illness. But why did he commit these actions?

Xiong figures there is more to the story than it seems. And the series is about Xiong unraveling the clues and the true mastermind.

Star Power

A-Joe Jiang continues to be part of the cast and special kudos to Zhuang Zu Ling for portraying Liu Sirui. All the actors have done a fabulous job.

Overall Opinion

Since this series is related to S1, please watch S1. S2 is also a must-watch series.
