Drama Digest
In the early 90’s, Lai Fu comes to live with Yi Duo, where they live and grow up with a group of friends in the factory compound. Lai Fu and Yi Duo both start working in a bicycle factory. The two friends slowly go their separate ways as they begin to face hardships in life and love.
In 1998, automobile production develops rapidly while the old bicycle factories begin shutting down. Lai Fu feels the need to preserve his childhood memories and so, reunites with his old friends to start a new business of bicycles. They work on innovative ideas to make the ‘old’ bicycles ‘young’ again.
The Feel-Good Part
Being about a group of young friends, the show is pretty mature. It beautifully captures the joys and hardships of life during that period of time. The story is very unique and refreshing at the same time. All the characters, lead and supporting, are written sincerely with enough detail which makes it a joy to watch them perform. There is innocence as well as maturity in the show.
The Disappointing Factor
While there is almost nothing to be disappointed about, some viewers may feel that the story becomes too unrealistic at certain points. The idealistic and stubborn nature of the male lead can also be a turn-off for a few typical K-Drama fans.
In-Depth Analysis
The early 90’s are beautifully portrayed in the show. The acting is sincere, not only by the leads but every supporting actor. Not even a single character feels out of place, all of them have a purpose and seem like a real part of the world that is presented. The story is brilliantly written, capturing the realities of the time period shown. There’s a certain aesthetic vibe to this show that cannot be described by words and can only be felt.
Star Power
The male lead Gao Zhi Ting perfectly plays the inspiring and strong character of Lai Fu. It feels as if he was born to play this character. The female lead Jelly Lin does a fantastic job in the shoes of Yi Duo. She is too adorable and just mesmerizes the audience by her performance.
