Drama Digest

Two Roommates from college are going through a quarter life crisis. One of them is a café owner and the other is a normal office worker. They lean on each other during these trying times and find solace in one another’s company. Their relationship is put to test when the café owner tries to make a move on his friend hoping their friendship could transform into a romance. The miniseries explores this journey that they embark on.

The Feel-Good Part

The show is quite short with each episode having a five minute run time, which makes it quite an easy series to watch. The short time-span of the show is used efficiently as there isn’t time wasted in getting to the main plot while making sure that the story doesn’t come off as rushed. The plot is presented in a non-linear way, which is quite intriguing as it is unusual to have this kind of narrative structure for a mini-series. The structure despite being non-linear is quite easy to follow and doesn’t allow for questions to remain unanswered by the end of the series. The series is very strong on its visuals. The characters and their feelings are presented visually rather than with excessive dialogue and monologues, which is refreshing to watch. The chemistry between the characters is commendable. The story is presented in a way that’s poetic and beautiful with mature characters, which makes for a good comfort watch. The show is detailed and thoughtful throughout, which is engaging and fascinating as it provides a clear portrait of the protagonists’ relationship without information overload.

The Disappointing Factor

The series feels more like a trailer than a complete show because of its short runtime, which is quite disappointing as there is a lot of potential for a full-fledged story with more details. Some scenes feel a little awkward because of the situation changes quite quickly because of the length of the show. This comes off as distracting.

In-Depth Analysis

The highlight of the drama is the use of visuals as it conveys the story beautifully as well as creates a strong setting for a BL romance. The chemistry between the characters is commendable considering the short run time. The writing and direction is top notch as it doesn’t attempt to over-explain their relationship and lets the story flow smoothly. The portrayal of the relationship is quite mature as the characters face consequences for their actions, which is quite rare for shows in the BL romance genre and is a welcome change. The mini-series uses its limited time effectively and gives the audience a nuanced portrayal of an adult relationship. The shortcomings of the show are mainly because of the short run-time as there is a lot more that could be done if the show was a full length series.

Star Power

All the performances were excellent as the actors had good chemistry with each other.

Overall Opinion

The mini-series is a must watch for fans of the BL romance genre or for people who are looking for a short, easy-going binge that has the perfect mix for a comfort show.
