Drama Digest

This is a Chinese period drama that is based on finding out the truth about a mysterious object. In the process, the female lead also discovers the male lead’s real personality and they both solve the mystery of the object. This is the second part of the series.

The Feel-Good Part

The series is a low-budget one but it doesn’t seem like it. The entire cast acted fantastically and there was no place for complaints regarding the royal and ancient costumes. It has the perfect amount of romance needed for a period drama. The most impressive thing the drama does is that the story continues as well in the second season as it did in the first one. The quality does not deteriorate and hence it doesn’t get boring.

The Disappointing Factor

There is no disappointing factor really. If the viewers find anything disappointing, it’s their personal opinion.

In-Depth Analysis

This is a complicated story. The female protagonist, Baili Xingxuan, is the daughter of the former general of the state. After her father’s death, a mysterious and honorable seal, Ru Meng Ling falls is succeeded by Baili. To protect this secret from her father, Baili decides to disguise herself as an ordinary woman. To escape society’s eyes, she decides to marry a man and act as his substitute wife. She gets married into the Fu family and assumes a new identity named Su Yin. As the current master/general learns about Baili’s escape, he sends men to catch her as she has taken with her the most important object a man could have. While on the run, Baili learns about the other members of the Fu family as well. She gets to meet a man named Fu Ye. Fu Ye was an unproblematic and sharp man who was addicted to alcohol. This first impression of Fu Ye that falls on Baili annoys her. She thinks he’s some wasted man who likes to spend most of his time drinking alcohol and bedding women. He used to drink all day during the daytime but nobody knew what he did during the night. Soon, Baili comes to know the truth behind Fu Ye. She learns that he’s actually a hero of the people who protects those in need by hiding his identity in a weed cloak. Nobody knows who he was, but received a lot of help from him. After Baili learns his secret, she starts falling for him as they two try to solve and protect the mystery story behind Ru Meng Ling. The love grows between them; however, Baili faces a problem. Her wedding is planned without her consent with the young master, Jingxuan, whom she had been betrothed to when they were children. She doesn’t want to get married because she was clearly in love with Fu Ye. Their story is about trying to figure out life and other mysterious things.

Star Power

Both the main leads, Baili Xingxuan portrayed by Viva Ho, and Fu Ye played by Caesar Wu are excellent characters and have amazing chemistry. Hence, nobody is the star of the show except for these two.

Overall Opinion

The series is a non-disappointing and one of the most interesting short C-dramas you’ll ever watch. It is highly recommended.
