Drama Digest

The drama is adapted from the web novel- Who Can Keep the Moon Private by Love. It is about childhood friends Lu Miao and Jiang Hao Yue, who have a dibbling-like relationship, where she protects him from bullies, and he helps her with schoolwork. As they move forward with their lives and eventually enter high school, Lu Miao realizes that her feelings for Jiang Hao Yue go beyond friendship. The story progresses as their relationship develops and they meet new people.

The Feel-Good Part

The drama is well-paced. It doesn’t drag, nor does it seem to be done in haste, all plotlines and consistent and take the appropriate amount of time to unfold, which helps the audience stay interested in the story. The drama has a nostalgic feel that promises the viewer a trip down memory lane; this adds to the light-hearted and feel-good tone of the show. The main characters are well-written; they are mature and have a distinctive quality, which helps them avoid frustrating plotlines of unnecessary misunderstandings that is usually common with dramas in these genres. The supporting characters are also fun to watch; they add comedic elements to the story and make the plot richer by focusing on friendship instead of romance. The chemistry between the characters is incredible; they have a gradual build up to a full-blown romance, which is fascinating to watch. The drama also focuses on other important topics such as physical disabilities and families. The way that these topics were dealt with is commendable as it doesn’t feel too heavy yet adds a layer of depth to the characters and the story.

The Disappointing Factor

Flourish in Time is not purely romantic as a drama, which may disappoint many viewers with those expectations. Its focus on friendship, youth, and school lead the drama to remain unfocused on the romantic aspects. It might be a deal-breaker for people who may not be able to relate to the high school setting.

In-Depth Analysis

The drama is executed excellently; it hits all the right spots and demands the viewers’ attention. The childhood friends to lovers trope may not be everyone’s preferred romance, but this show does it well. It focuses on different aspects of youth while keeping the tone light. The drama isn’t only targeting the younger demographic. It could be enjoyed by anyone, from people who are reminiscing their youth to those currently in high school.

Star Power

All the performances were delivered well. The Female Lead was a delight to watch on screen, despite being only 16 years old at the time, she gave a power-packed performance and was able to go toe-to-toe with adult counterparts.

Overall Opinion

Flourish in Time is a refreshing youth drama with many new things to offer to the genre. It is incredibly well-executed and hence entertaining. Its light-hearted tone makes for a comforting and engaging watch. This is definitely worth your time. You will either be thoroughly entertained or look back on your youth and smile.
