The Feel-Good Part

The acting was notable, even though the script was plain and monotonous with forced emotions. The dialogues were well delivered and the family conflict was somewhat interesting compared to the main plot of the story.

The plot was basic and monotonous. It was filled with political propaganda and obligatory nationalism. The subtitles are not easily available making it difficult for international viewers to watch the show.

Hualong District One also known as Enlighten Your Life is a Chinese Drama. It’s about Lehmann, a Yugoslavian nuclear expert who visited a nuclear power plant in China in 1986. When Yugoslavian nuclear power expert Mr. Lehmann came to inspect nuclear power plants and questioned China’s ability to build them, the founder Ye Jia Ming He, and his purchaser, Lin Tian Cheng, became his first supporters. However, while building the factory, Tian Chen is corrupted by Ding Li and accused of various crimes by his superiors, Tian Chen feels betrayed and resigns. He went to America and left his son Lin Qi in the care of the Ye family. But he did not expect his son to follow in his footsteps and grow up to be a key figure in the development of nuclear weapons. It also shows the dynamics of family conflicts in the Yi family and the relationship between father, son, and adopted son Lin Qi. The plot was basic and monotonous. It was filled with political propaganda and obligatory nationalism. What’s more, it’s also propaganda about Chinese nationalism, and they want to be proud to build and enter a nuclear power plant and to do good. The actors did a fair job and the dialogues though lengthy were well delivered. Overall, it’s an average drama with unnecessarily complex themes.

The star power of the show is the actors. Most of the actors did excellent work on the show. Even when the story was struggling the actors kept the viewers engaged throughout.

Overall, Hualong District One is the story of when Yugoslavian nuclear power expert Mr. Lehmann came to inspect nuclear power plants and questioned China’s ability to build them. Overall, it’s an average drama with unnecessarily complex themes.
