Drama Digest
‘Dear one’ is an urban family drama telling the story of Zhang Dingbang. Zhang was the first college student from his village but had been in prison for manslaughter. He returns to his regular life after 15 years and sets on a quest to find his children, whom he hasn’t met since then, under a promise he made while his wife was dying. The family reunion brings about a turbulent path that Zhang needs to clear to have a better life with his family. The Feel-Good Part
This drama has family at its heart, but it is a family chosen for love rather than simply for family values. After fifteen years of toiling away, Zhang remembers and tries his best to fulfill his promise of being with his family. He removes all obstacles that come his way to resolve all the conflicts and live in harmony with his children. This plot gives the viewers the urge to keep watching.
The Disappointing Factor
Even till the last part, Zhang is alone, making enough efforts to establish a good relationship with his children, making the viewer impatient. The plot starts slow, but it does pick up the pace and improves by the end.
In-Depth Analysis
Zhang Dingbang is an advocate who accidentally killed someone and landed in prison for fifteen years. Meanwhile, grave changes have happened in his family back home, his wife passing away and his children separating from each other. There has been a misunderstanding with his eldest child while the second child suffers from amnesia; the third and fourth children have separated from the family and do not intend to return to the original family. Zhang is unaware of these roadblocks while in prison and needs to fulfill his promise to live with his children after returning.
Fortunately, he stays strong in the face of despair of learning about past events. He set on his search for his children with almost no clues. He was soon able to locate his children, but now he had to resolve the conflicts. He insisted on not giving up and finally succeeds in winning their love.
Star Power
Wang Zhiwen, Chen Xiang, and Jiang Mengjie are among the main cast. Their acting is appreciable in their looks and the expression of stories on their faces. The actors seem to be competing on their acting skills, giving it all the better effect. Zhiwen is simply marvelous in his acting.
Overall Opinion
The drama speaks heart-to-heart to the audience of families. It begins as a sad story with complicated characters but builds up hope as our protagonist clears his many obstacles and twists and turns to bring a reunion, as he keeps his word. It is a drama set to make life better, making it promising to watch.
