This is a Chinese series having a story that revolves around five women who have five different lives. These women come together and open a restaurant while running their lives.
The Feel-Good Part
The drama has all sorts of scenes. There are slow moments as well as some fast-paced ones. The narration of love stories of every different person in a different way is appreciated. The best part of the drama is the friendship between the five female leads and that the male characters play a secondary and supporting role to the women characters.
The Disappointing Factor
The drama doesn’t give much time for character relationships to develop because these relationships start from almost zero. As none of the five main lead women are friends from the beginning, they didn’t have enough time to build a proper relationship with each other. The acting part of the series is uneven as different actors act up to different potentials.
In-Depth Analysis
Five different women from different walks of life decide to open up a restaurant together. The name of this restaurant is kept as ‘Bei Zhe Nan Yuan’ which is a Chinese idiom meaning ‘to act in a way that defeats one’s purpose.’ The names of these five women are You Shan Shan, Bao Xue, Dai Xiao Yu, Si Meng, and Feng Xi. Out of these, Dao Xiao Yu, who lives overseas, and Bao Xue, who’s a small-screen actress are cousins. You, Shan Shan, are the biggest shareholder of the restaurant and are the reason all of these best friends decide to open up the restaurant. Si Meng is an ordinary housewife and Feng Xi has visited Beijing for the sole purpose of finding love. The show also has three male characters who become the love interests of three of the female characters. The series has a blend of happiness, grief, frustration, friendship, love, etc. It represents the purpose of friendship as the main thing as it’s based on the friendship between the lead women. The lives of these women happen subsequently and in contrast with each other.
Star Power
Three out of five women characters were the strongest and the most positive on the show. Even though they showed fluctuation in characters, they give a positive vibe till the end of the story which is appreciated.
Overall Opinion
Overall, all the characters have different personalities and none of the characters are lovable due to their backstories. It’s an adult drama which is somewhat hard to get.
