The Feel-Good Part
The best part of the show is Qiao Nuo. Every time she is on screen, she is such a ray of sunshine, and her resilience and hard work are truly admirable. She truly brings heart and enjoyment to the show. It is remarkable that she is not placed at the top of the ranks and has respect from the get-go but slowly builds up to it. The show is very engaging. There are several elements, such as the cases themselves, which is why you tune in to every episode. There is also the way each episode wraps up that makes it a pleasant experience all around.
The Disappointing Factor
Even with its episode-by-episode format, there is not much depth to the episodes for the most part. It is the usual good guy, terrible guy, back and forth in a court, followed by the victim getting justice and criminals being charged, while there is intensity, it kind of gets repetitive throughout its 30-episode run. The love interest arc does not seem fitting in this show as it does not add anything to the overall story of Qiao Nuo and her overall growth in the profession, which is the central focus of the show. While no one indeed expects a real-life beat-for-beat replication of a court case, much of what is showcased on screen is a dramatized version of court life and the topics fought in court.
In-Depth Analysis
Courtroom dramas have a specific format that needs to be followed so audiences can keep up and enjoy. While the show does not do anything revolutionary with the courtroom format, it still manages to remain engaging due to the variety of cases. The drama is an excellent lesson in working hard and mirroring the toughness of the law world. How much effort and struggle does it take to fight a case, and what it takes to win a case? Qiao Nuo is a great role model to those who watch, even with the mirror laws in her character.
Star Power
Zhang Han Wen directed the drama. He also directed two other projects; Cat and Dog and Lost Promise. The best part of the show and the reason audiences keep coming back to the show is Qiao Nuo played by Janice Wu star of other dramas and movies such as My Sunshine, Young Sherlock, My Amazing Boyfriend, The Fox Fairy Court, You Are My Sunshine, Catman, and Lighting Up The Stars. Her acting skills in this show are deeply engaging. At no point in the drama does she come across as ignorant or unwilling to learn, and that balance between a comer who’s eager to learn and someone who will go to any lengths to get what she wants is perfect. Eric Le Yang plays Li Xu. He adds to Qiao Nuo’s growth and development alongside Fan Jia Yi played by Zheng Ya Wen, and Wei Yu Tai played by Dai Xu. Eric Le Yang starred in dramas and movies such as The Course of History, Aftershock, Nothing But Thirty, Novoland Eagle Flag, The Hypnotist, 12 Citizens, and How Long Will I Love U. Zheng Ya Wen starred in Handsome Siblings, Why Get Married, The Legend of the Monster, The Story of Xi Yan, Hibiscus of Late Tang Dynasty, Purple Tang, and Please Keep Away. Dai Xu starred in Qi Pan Yi Jia Qin, Reunion Dinner, Burning Ice, The Rise of Phoenixes, Singing When You’re Young, Einstein and Einstein, Breaking the Waves, and Curse of The Deserted. The show has a great supporting cast with actors like Jiang Kai, Wang Bo Wen, and more.
Overall Opinion
The show provides a strong female lead who is a great role model. The stories might get a bit repetitive but it never gets dull. It is truly a show worth checking out.
