Drama Digest

Half demon twins Towa and Setsuna have been joined by the hip and happily reside in Feudal Japan. Things instantly fall apart as a forest fire separates the two of them, and Towa gets thrown into a portal that sends her to modern-day Japan, where Souta Higurashi raises her as if she were her daughter as Towa can’t find a way to return to her time. Ten years later, Towa adjusts to her surroundings despite getting into petty fights. Her peace is short-lived as three visitors from Feudal Japan; Moroha, a bounty hunter; Setsuna, a demon slayer and Towa’s long-lost twin sister; and Mistress Three-Eyes, who is a demon in search of a mystical object, visit her. They eventually work together to defeat the enemy. Things start to work out until Towa realizes that her sister has no memory of her whatsoever. Will they be able to reconnect, or will they continue to live as fateful strangers?

The Feel-Good Part

The show is fast-paced and doesn’t waste time in getting to the story’s core quickly, which hooks the audience in from the very beginning. The story gets into the details in the second half, which is giving the viewers a clear picture of each character. The narrative structure is easy to follow and this bifurcation helps focus on the difference between the first, and second half of the show.

The Disappointing Factor

The characters in the show are uninteresting and lack detail, which is incredibly disappointing for a show with space to develop characters well. The emotional aspects don’t land well because the audience isn’t given enough substance to care for the characters in any way or form. The fast pace is also a significant hindrance for the show to deliver on its premise as it feels like it’s rushing sometimes and doesn’t let the audience sit with the information they are provided with. The biggest flaw of the show is that it doesn’t maintain the themes and the essence of the original story, which is a major let-down for many fans as it feels like a cash grab rather than a story that deserves to be told.

In-Depth Analysis

The show is quite mediocre, especially for such a beloved franchise with many fans. There are many great moments that the show has, but those are all they are. They are mere moments of a show that had great potential if it was well thought of, but that isn’t the case here. Most of the criticism the show has received has come from fans of the original series, which is valid but also a little too harsh because the expectations for this were high.

Star Power

All the performances were great. It is pretty clear that the actors gave their best with limited material to work with.

Overall Opinion

This show is an easy skip for both- fans and newcomers to the series as it doesn’t have much to offer as an independent story.
