Anime Digest

Subarashiki Kono Sekai The Animation is a Japanese anime that was released in 2021. The English title of Subarashiki Kono Sekai The Animation is, The World Ends With You The Animation. The anime is based on a game. The story revolves around a teenage boy, Neku Sakuraba, the titular character of the series. He awakens in Shibuya, though not the usual one, an alternate one and unwillingly gets roped in to participate in a game called ‘Reaper’s Game.’ The game consists of different missions, which span over the course of 7 days. He then comes across a girl named Shiki while being attacked by monsters and partners with her to survive. The duo then meets many people similar to them while on their mission.

The Feel-Good Part

The art of the anime is good, and the soundtrack is decent. Those who have played the original game would prefer watching this anime more than those who haven’t because of the familiarity factor of course.

The Disappointing Factor

The anime follows a very fast pace which might seem rushed. The characters and their relationship growth is poorly written. Though the art of the anime is pretty good, the CGI is equally bad and ruins the vibe of the anime. If you haven’t played the game, then there’s a chance of you not wholly liking the anime.

In-Depth Analysis

In the initial episodes, the anime is more inclined towards showing the completion of the different missions, and gradually, the story shows the broader picture, which includes a lot of complicated scenes revolving around the underground. As already mentioned, the pace was very fast to fit everything in a limited time. However, even with a rushed pace, the storyline seems to unfold at a slow pace, while the character’s relationship feels shallow because of the lack of development of the characters.

Star Performance

The character of Neku Sakuraba has been voiced by Kouki Uchiyama, Yoshiya Kiryu by Ryouhei Kimura, Shiki Misaki by Anna Hachimine, Daisukenojo Bitou by Subaru Kimura, and Raimu by Ayana Fujimoto. The supporting cast includes voice actors such as Kenjirou Tsuda, Anri Katsu, Hiroshi Shirokuma, Satomi Arai, Kenji Takahashi, and many more.

Overall Opinion

The fans of the original game would mostly opine that the anime adaptation is not at par with the game. The anime, though it had the potential to be one of the best in the given genre, failed to do so. Overall, if, you have time to kill you can watch this anime, otherwise, we do not recommend you watch this anime.
