Drama Digest:
The drama depicts the story of a Japan that is facing a significant financial crisis. The country is shown to be drowned in debt of 1 quadrillion yen. So before the country is completely shattered due to this economic collapse, the ministry decides to take action and save it. The Prime Minister, Takamori Ejima, curates a nonpareil team of expert finance administrators who might end up being the country’s only hope. The future of Japan now depends on their hands, as the Prime Minister tells them to shrink the annual expenditure of the country to half of its present value. That team of elite finance officials consists of four members and their mission is termed Operation Z. Those bureaucrats work hard together to achieve their rather delusive target of decreasing the annual expenditure of the nation by 50%.
The Feel-Good Part:
The story is undoubtedly new and unique. The series isn’t quite long, it has just six episodes, and it is almost fast-paced. Therefore, I believe it can be a perfect option for anyone thinking of experimenting with a new drama genre. The series also has a fair share of good twists, which might stress you out and make you wish for more.
The Disappointing Part:
Honestly, the drama seems as if the makers wanted to do something great, nearly to the extent where it almost questions the idea of capitalism. But unfortunately, they failed, to a certain degree. The series leaves you rather clueless at points. The real spirit of a political calamity or technical crisis is probably missing. The fact is that the storyline lack depth, which the makers perhaps thought could be ignored in the shadow of heavy professional terms. But ironically, that doesn’t work. If anything, you get more perplexed. Thus, it would be better if you rather understood some finance-related terminology too (or else you will just find yourself continuously googling terms, like me).
In-Depth Analysis:
The drama is not at all fit for all kinds of audiences. It isn’t some casual, basic, regular type of fun, political thriller series that everyone can enjoy. In fact, only a selected portion of the audience might even choose to watch a technical series such as Operation Z and be able to enjoy it. It might seem like a waste of time for someone who has zero knowledge about finance.
Star Power:
The show has quite an experienced cast. Kusakari Masao plays the role of Prime Minister Takamori Ejima, and he indeed did a fabulous job. You can feel his authority through the screen, every single time as if he actually is your Prime Minister and you are working for him. Other than him, Mizobata Junpei, Takahashi Maryjun, Takuma Takayuki, Kobayashi Takashi, Horibe Keisuke, etc are also part of the team and did a nice job.
Overall Opinion:
If you are bored of the regular series with a same monotonous storyline, then you could probably check this drama out. But you better be interested in finance and political drama too, or else you can pass on this one.
