Movie Digest
Eunsu (Woo Mi-Hwa), a middle-aged high school teacher, is happily dating Yewon (Lee Yeon), a considerably younger lady who is uncomfortable and used to be one of her students. Despite sharing a home, the couple keeps their relationship a secret from their coworkers and family members. While Eunsu presents Yewon as a roommate to the sister she hardly sees when she returns home for her mother’s yearly memorial service, Yewon explains to her coworker that Eunsu is her cousin. Although Eunsu experiences periodic worry, Yewon sees their relationship as familial. However, when Eunsu is involved in a vehicle accident that results in her sister’s death, Yewon is reminded that she is not “family” and cannot care for Eunsu at the hospital. Though her teacher abandons her with Eunsu she knows nothing about other than the fact that there is a connection between Eunsu and Yewon, she temporarily assumes responsibility for Eunsu’s suddenly orphaned niece Sumin (Kim Bo-min). When Eunsu wakes up, she learns that she has lost the use of her legs and might need to use a wheelchair for at least the next couple of years. This further strains her relationships because she feels like she would be burdening Yewon and is unsure of her ability to care for her niece. She also retreats into herself out of concern for her emotional ties with other people. Yewon expresses concern for Eunsu and Sumin as they both struggle to adjust to their changed circumstances in order to highlight the fact that they are family and that no hardship is too great for them to bear together. The focus of the movie is on how they handle certain situations.
