Min Gi Heon is a former South Korean secret intelligence agent suffering from a terminal illness. He is assigned a final task to transport Seo Bok from one place to another place safely. Seo Bok having the self-healing secret causes various agents to target him. They want to use him for different purposes, maybe good or bad. Will Gi Heon be able to protect Seo Bok?
The Feel-Good Part
Seobok is a different kind of sci-fi movie. The execution of the unique concept is admirable. The cinematography and graphics combined with the background music give the required thrill to the viewers. The special effects are compelling. The dialogues are delivered perfectly. The story is entertaining, and it keeps the flow of adrenaline constant throughout the movie. The plot is enthralling and also easy to understand. The terminally ill Gi Heon draws the empathy of the audience. The movie makes one quite emotional with all the hidden meanings. It contains philosophical elements hidden deep inside the plot. The movie has a meaningful story and makes one aware of the meaning of life and death.
The Disappointing Factor
The story lacks depth in terms other than philosophy, and the script could have been better. Gi Heon and Seo Bok’s character development is not much. The movie would have been a bit longer had their character development been included. The change in the movie’s length would still be unnoticeable. The lack of character development hinders the actors’ performance in showing their best potential. The plot makes the viewers expect some things to happen in the movie. Those expectations are not met and somewhat disappoint the viewers in that aspect.
In-Depth Analysis
The philosophical element that the movie delivers is worth giving a thought to. It deals with the meaning of life and death. It also gives insight into the significance of death. It shows that if there is no death, then it can only increase desire and greed and, in turn, bring destruction. The movie also shows how biotechnology, also called genetic engineering, can be implemented to create such things. It shows how in this greedy world, a lack of compassion can worsen it, whereas care can make it better. Understanding the value of life is the essence of this movie.
Star Power
The powerful combination of Gong Yoo and Park Bo Gum itself is the first reason to make the viewers watch the movie. Gi Heon and Seo Bok are alike in fearing death and, at the same time, life. Gong Yoo has portrayed Min Gi Heon excellently. Park Bo Gum’s portrayal of Seo Bok with required minimal expressions is alluring. The rest of the cast has increased the beauty of the movie.
Overall Opinion
The star cast and the unique and alluring plot make the movie worth watching.
