Movie Digest

Koji owns and operates a used bookstore. He likes Ikka, a female drummer, but Misaki, a female high school student, comes in front of him and continues to proclaim her feelings for him.

The Feel-Good Part

The explicit sexiness of the film is offset with hilarious moments, such as when the wedding planner judges the cheating fiancé’s performance in bed as candidly as she would a bad soufflé.

Koji may appear creepy to some (such as Misaki’s parents), but in the end, he and his teenage admirer share nothing except each other’s company — and books. None of them are rated X.

The Disappointing Factor

However, “Love Nonetheless” is insightful about the heart’s irrational urges, which do not always obey rationality or, in Misaki’s case, parental prohibitions.

In-Depth Analysis

The film begins in Imaizumi’s regular low-key humorous style, with Koji Tada (Koji Seto), the reclusive proprietor of a secondhand bookstore, who is nearly 30 but has a bespectacled look and settled demeanor of a middle-aged man. Misaki (Yumi Kawai), a high school girl and store regular, take a book and dashes out of the store one day. When Koji finally gets up to her, she claims she took it after seeing him read it. “I love you and want to marry you,” she says.

Despite his rejection, she writes him letters that all finish with the same plea: “Let’s be married.” Koji informs her that her idea of marriage is a pipe dream, but he’s lonely and enjoys having this outgoing, confident person around. As a result, his “no” is never honestly “no.”

Meanwhile, Ikka (Honami Sato), who recently dumped Koji to his chagrin, is preparing to marry a smooth-talking fellow (Ayumu Nakajima). Her fiancé, on the other hand, is having an affair with their wedding planner (Yuka Kori), and when Ikka discovers (if not with whom) and confronts him, his blatant falsehoods drive her to seek revenge sex. Koji, the nice guy, is an obvious choice for a companion

Star Power

As his character wrestles with his runaway thoughts and ardent convictions, Seto gives a perfectly calibrated portrayal that is both humorously nerdy and unabashedly emotional.

Overall Opinion

Overall, the movie is worth watching for people who like romance and comedy genres.
