Movie Digest
The film is about a young girl Ji Ze, who falls in love with a man from another planet Xin Tang, who can create illusions with his voice and make people happy. Xin Tang can use his ability only three times on a person before being bound to them. When he rescues Ji Ze from a suicide attempt, he is bound to her.
The Feel-Good Part
The movie presents a much-needed discussion on mental health and depression. It uniquely gives its message. The movie discusses heavy topics such as the social stigma around depression. The main leads have great chemistry between them. The movie has a great soundtrack. It also has good visual effects which look great on-screen. Ji Ze’s internal struggles and self-blaming attitude are very realistic and relatable to people with mental health issues.
The Disappointing Factor
The romance seemed a little fast-paced, and the storyline falls short in some places. The movie depended on overused cliches. The ending was left to the audience’s interpretation and we don’t know what exactly happens to the main couple in the end. It gets a little monotonous around the middle.
In-Depth Analysis
The premise of the movie is unique- if Xin Tang is unable to make Ji Ze happy, he will die. He does his best to keep her happy, which is not an easy task. The acting shined when mental health was brought up. Ji Ze symbolizes our current generation- happy on the outside, but sad within. She puts up a façade for Xin Tang to not make him worry. It has a fantasy twist to it.
Star Power
This film is directed by Luo Luo and stars Ruonan Zhang and Chenjun Sun.
Overall Opinion
The movie is fresh and wholesome. The premise and plot are unusual. It raises some valid points about mental health issues. Though lacking at points, the movie drives its message to the core. It is an interesting movie.
