Movie Digest
This short movie stars the talented Zhang Yu xi in the main role of Gu you. Gu you’s mother, Xiao mein, is an English lecturer. She has very carefully planned, a future for her daughter, from her career to her marriage, to make sure that her daughter lives a stable life. On the other hand, gu you wants to go abroad as she feels suffocated in the way she is living, she wishes to study somewhere away from her country. Her mother had enrolled her in Ballet classes since she was a child but as gu, you grew older, she started feeling an inclination towards street dance. She wanted to explore the freedom it comes from dancing anything other than ballet but her mother was against the idea. This results in a series of conflicts between the mother and daughter, and they further try to mend their relationship while understanding each other’s opinions.
The Feel Good Part
The dancing in this movie is beautiful. Zhang yu xi is an incredible dancer and her acting with the mother is intense and makes the movie worth watching.
The Disappointing Factor
Some viewers may find the movie boring. The story is not unique there have been dozens of Hollywood movies with the same theme as this one, and nothing is interesting about the movie apart from the actors.
In-Depth Analysis
Fairy Dance is a good movie but it has that familiarity within it that almost makes you not watch it. The predictable nature of the movie can be off-putting for some viewers. The actors have done a really good job giving the appropriate depth to their characters and the ballet dance sequences are beautifully shot. I wish the movie had some unique storyline to make it a memorable watch but sadly, the recurrence of the plot is boring. The viewers have reported watching the movie only for the cost involved in this project.
Star Power
The cast of this movie is truly the commendable part about it. With Huang xiao lei and Zhang yu xi as the lead protagonists, this movie could only withstand the critics because of its star cast.
Overall Opinion
Overall, the movie is not horrible, it’s not a memorable watch though. The movie survived the harsh critics only because of the star leads involved, the storyline lacks consistency and the plot is not unique. The movie has good cinematography and is shot very well. The background music and the official soundtrack are also lovely. Still, overall the movie is a good one-time watch with the family.
