Movie Digest

A story about a millennial who embarks on a mystical quest to track down his birth father. To put an end to his mother’s ridiculous allegations that singer Lo Ta Yu is his father, Gao Ge travels to Shenchuan with his mother to visit Lo Ta Yu, but the two become separated along the route. Gao Ge meets up with his mother’s old coworkers and finds her chaotic, colorful, and romantic history with the help of Dou Dou and Yu Wei.

The Feel-Good Part

You’re going to love this movie. It was lighthearted and fluffy, with just enough angst. Filipino romances will remind you a lot of 90’s movies, with beautiful and clever characters who drive the plot and make you fall in love with them.

The Disappointing Factor

The plot will be a little confusing in the first half, but once they prove ownership of the pager (a communication gadget popular in the 1990s), things will start to make sense.

In-Depth Analysis

Gao Ge accompanies his mother all the way to Shenzhen to confront singer Luo Dayou directly in order to prevent her from lying to the entire world that he is his father.

When his mother (Yan Ni) goes missing, Gao Ge (Sheng Yilun) enlists the help of his great buddy Doudou (Yu Xiaotong) and producer Yu Wei to find her (Guo Shutong). They find his mother’s wilder days and a mythical romance from her youth on their quest. Gao Ge and his mother embark on a journey to find his father after Gao Ge realises his misunderstandings about her.

Star Power

This director did a wonderful job putting our OTP together to appear incredible. I couldn’t stop swooning over their attractiveness and chemistry. The show is carried by the main characters. The secondary characters are entertaining, but we don’t care for them.

Overall Opinion

This film has a big plot twist that you must see for yourself. If you enjoy a lighthearted, family film, it is well worth your time. This was a fantastic film. Was it a typical rom-com and was it predictable? Yes, but every time our protagonists smiled, my heart fluttered, which is why we watch romantic movies in the first place. I would strongly suggest this film to everyone in need of some romance in their lives.
