Drama Digest:

A fictitious historical drama starts when Lee Tae, King Sunjong’s eldest legitimate son who succeeded him as ruler following the uprising, assumes the throne of Joseon. With the aid of Park Gye Won, Lee Tae’s father overthrew the monarchy and established a new dynasty. Lee Tae became the subsequent king after taking the throne from his father. Lee Tae thinks that any action is appropriate to accomplish his objective. First Vice-Premier Park Gye Won is opposed to his desire to reign as an absolute king. Even more potent than the king is Park Gye Won. Yoo Jung, on the other hand, is a noble family’s daughter. She is who Lee Tae considers his wife. Her family thus becomes embroiled in a power struggle at the royal court.

The Feel-Good Part:

Amazing plot development, The show’s opening sequence served to introduce a number of characters and lay the groundwork for the plot by indicating “where, why, when, and how it all begins,” which was successful in making an impact.

The Disappointing Factor:

Although there were some excellent parts all throughout, this drama fell short of its potential.

In-Depth Analysis:

If done well, a historical drama with a darker, more somber, and more dramatic tone and edge would be totally up my alley. Because they focus more on political maneuvers and backstabbing, which aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, they might get a little dry and challenging to get into. As tragedy frequently does, the drama has a specific emotional, cathartic effect on a person, and the story pulls you into a dismal world and won’t let go. Even if it could occasionally seem like you are witnessing this all from a distance, especially at first. But still you hold your breath, gasp or smile over every little plot twist that comes your way and the well-executed political maneuverings of the characters.

Star Power:

Lee Joon and Kang Han Na are in the main roles. Nothing is unexpected. Because the plot has established this and explained why, you can understand why each character received the outcome that they did. Everything depends on the protagonists’ choices; even when they are reasonable, every small decision they make has a disastrous snowball impact on everything else. Everyone is enmeshed in a power struggle that they are powerless to escape because doing so would mean losing everything. In a complex tale about a power struggle involving flawed, morally dubious characters, it makes excellent use of the elements of tragedy. And watching it was enjoyable.

Overall Opinion:

All things considered, the drama is a fantastic work of sageuk. It maintained excellence throughout and proved to be a must-watch piece, from a notable story to noteworthy direction, from mesmerizing cinematography to transfixing editing, from spectacular performance to thrilling presentation, and finally the astounding results. The play is most importantly “thought-provoking,” as you put it.
