Based on Min Jin Lee’s bestselling 2017 novel, this story moves on multiple time tracks, constantly between past and present. “Pachinko” take us back to the time when korea was under Japanese rule. It represents an epic story of a Korean immigrant family across four generations and the halted love in difficult times.

The Feel-Good Part

Many episodes from the past flow gracefully, the flashbacks were enhancing he show’s emotional power thereby creating a strong and impactful screen presence. It slips back and forth different timelines, no matter in which era we are in, the delivery of the dialogs was clear and the cast was delivering the best performances

The Disappointing Factor

This series keeps moving back and forth, picking up the forward movement of each timeline, a little distraction can make one lose track of story and things can get a little confusing. Also, it presents no character as having a worthwhile goal, on the rare occasion it presents any character as having a goal at all. However, characters of Lee Min HO and Jin Haa has a strong screen presence.

In-Depth Analysis

Pachinko is a masterpiece. This drama revolves around a crucial period in recent history. It is an eye opener on the country’s history, it also shows how a life of a family holds up against the changing global landscape and how that shifts between a clan’s generations. This story is a representative of all those who have ever felt their homeland, in search for a better future for themselves of for their families.

In the early 20th century, Kim Sun-Ja a girl born and raised in Busan, Korea. At that time korea was under Japanese rule. She falls in love with a man named Koh Han-Su. He is a person from a different social class with a powerful status, but Kim Sun-Ja is not fully aware of his complete background. Kim Sun-Ja’s mother runs a lodge Meanwhile, Baek Isak a church priest comes to stay at the lodge. When he get to know about Kim Sun-Ja’s situation, he tries to warn her about the consequences that she might have to face later, but, she wasn`t ready to listen anything or anyone. Later, church priest offer to marry her. Kim Sun-Ja soon moves to Japan, as a korean immigrant she was facing difficult times.

Star Power

The entire cast is good. Lee Min-ho is a major star in south korea, is the charismatic hansu, is playing the role of a Korean worker who works for the Japanese company. Who just returned home as a broker at the fish market near Sunya’s village.

Also, Jin Haa is US actor he is playing the role of a man who goes to Tokyo in order to convince a Korean woman to sell her house to make way for his company’s building project. His character has a strong screen presence.

The cast is amazing and really natural, you will form a deeper connection with them as the drama will proceed.

Overall Opinion

One should give it a chance, to know the story of the resilience of the countless people who are living with melancholic longing in their hearts. It is a worthwhile watch.
