Drama digest

Following the death of her father, a vengeful lady puts her faith in a powerful crime lord and joins the police force under his command.

The feel-good part

‘My Name’ is an intriguing reimagining of the traditional vengeance and betrayal theme, concentrating on gritty storytelling, excellent cast performances, and a willingness to employ very violent and explicit visual language. There is no humorous ridiculousness or manufactured comedy is a huge plus. The music is also worth highlighting.

The disappointing factor

For those familiar with the genre, the story isn’t innovative. When a re-telling of a similar premise is done properly, however, it may be a delight to watch and may introduce new fans to the dark thriller and suspense genre.

In-depth analysis

Unsurprisingly, the eight-episode action-packed criminal noir thriller is violent and frequently predictable. The writing, on the other hand, is continuously fast-paced, which admirably suits the genre’s needs and delivers a punch.

Yoon Ji Woo, a member of an organized criminal gang, goes undercover as a cop and feels a deep hatred for the people who have wronged her. Choi Moo Jin, the chief of Korea’s most giant drug ring, assists Yoon Ji Woo in going undercover. Choi Moo Jin’s genuine motivations are difficult to decipher.

A police officer, Jeon Pil Do. When Yoon Ji Woo joins the police force, he becomes Yoon Ji Woo’s partner. The Drug Investigation Unit’s squad head, Cha Gi Ho and Choi Moo Jin have been opponents for a long time, and Cha Gi Ho has vowed to bring down Choi Moo Jin’s criminal gang before he retires.

Star power

The cast deserves the highest appreciation, especially the lead actress, Han So Hee. ‘My Name’ is a protagonist narrative in which the main character’s portrayal determines whether the story succeeds or fails. For his performance of Choi Moo Jin, Park Hee Soon merits commendation. As the mafia head of the Dongcheon gang, he exudes class, charm, and screen presence.

Overall opinion

‘My Name’ is a gripping story of a woman’s quest for vengeance through Seoul’s dark underbelly and the nasty criminal underworld, which is rife with brutality and cruelty. This play is not for the faint of heart, as it contains several moments of pure, unadulterated brutality and carnage that will undoubtedly cause considerable distress.
