Drama Digest

The story revolves around two men who want to achieve something in their careers at different ages. Goo Pil Soo is a former boxer in his 40s. He had once held the title of the rookie of the year under his belt. The other protagonist is Jung Seok, a guy from a poor background who graduated from the most prestigious university in Seoul. The plot revolves around the bromance of these two men from different generations, different backgrounds, and different aspirations. The older man failed in his career and ran many odd jobs to support his wife and son. The younger man was believing that a startup is his ticket to fame and riches will show how different the two generations thought processes to cope with financial strains are.

How do the small bar owner in his 40s and the aspiring startup owner in his 20s get along? Are they truly different in all ways or do they have something in common? Watch the drama to know more about this and how the story unfolds.

The Feel-Good Part

Through the generations, the way we approach unemployment has changed. While the older generations turn to smaller jobs where they are overqualified for the role, the younger generations turn to business ideas and launching startups to call themselves successful entrepreneurs. This is very beautifully depicted with comedy sprinkled all over the drama. How we are different yet very alike is shown using very clever writing and a very talented cast.

The Disappointing factor

The story focuses on the hurdles one faces along with their career. Goo Pil Soo is a man who is starting his second innings after his failed boxing career. His skillset contains the skills he picked up along the many odd jobs he did. But showing him working alongside people in their 20s who are in their prime health may have been a risky move for the writers. They could have focused more on the family aspects of the leads to show how a middle-class family depends entirely on the breadwinner.

In-Depth Analysis

The story is well written, with a lot of humor added as a tool to educate people about grave issues in society. Jung seok is a very relatable character to the youth of today. The startup wars, the competition that increased a hundredfold since the last generation, and how being admitted into a prestigious university is a beginning and not the end are some aspects every young entrepreneur can relate to. Goo Pil Soo and his struggle to give a comfortable life to his family is heart-touching. It shows how the older generation needs to work longer to survive the financial inflation of the world. The bromance and chemistry between the two men will leave the audience laughing uncontrollably.

Star Power

The main characters and their varied reasons to work are beautifully portrayed by the actors. Yoon Doo Joon joins the cast as Jung Seok after his military enlistment, so the audience has been waiting for his performance after his long hiatus. Everyone in the cast did a spectacular job and complete justice to the roles they portrayed.

Overall Opinion

The life of rookie prodigies is not always bright. That is shown when Goo Pil Soo does not have a successful career in boxing. This is a great drama that uses humor as a weapon to convey important social messages to the audience. One minute the audience is laughing at the mismatch between the characters and their chemistry, the other minute, they are in tears over how difficult their lives are. Overall, this is a drama everyone should watch at least once to know how the educational and financial situation of the world currently affects different generations.
