Drama Digest
Fly, Again is a drama about Han Yo Han’s transition to becoming an idol from a prodigy dancer. To achieve this, he transfers to Hanbit Arts High School. However, things don’t go as expected as he gets into an accident. He often butts heads with the ‘Villains’ of the dance club, where he later meets Ji Min. Things change for the two of them as the story progresses. They push each other and gather the courage to dream new dreams.
The Feel-Good Part
The Original Soundtrack is excellent and fits the story well. The story gives good insight into the K-POP debut world, especially with what happens behind the scenes. This could be interesting for many viewers as K-pop grows in popularity. The numerous friendships depicted in the show are heart-warming, adding to the general cheery tone of the story.
The Disappointing Factor
The story is incredibly weak and cliché. There isn’t much that happens throughout the show, despite being highly confusing. The story is simple, but executed confusingly with many subplots going unexplained. It is easy for the audience to lose interest in the drama. Since the story was so scattered, there was hope that it would all come together by the end, but none of that happened, and certain things continued to confuse. The dance scenes were poorly executed in terms of the lip sync and the quality of performances. The dialogues were boring and clumsily written. It left no room for the audience to remain hooked to the show as it often explained the obvious. The character development was almost non-existent; nobody seemed to have grown by the end of the show, which is disappointing as it doesn’t deliver on the story’s potential. This might have happened because the characters weren’t layered, which gives them no room to grow as the plot progresses.
In-Depth Analysis
The drama misses the spot on several occasions. The story had so much potential; it suffers from incompetent execution, which is all the more disappointing because it wastes a good cast and an incredible soundtrack to produce a mediocre piece of media. If the characters were written better, the show would have been considerably more exciting to watch unfortunately, it isn’t
Star Power
Hyung-Won from Idol Group Monsta X plays the lead role, and he is phenomenal in it. He completely disappears in the character of Han Yo Han. He delivers the character with the ease of a seasoned actor. The rest of the actors are great performers who had very little to work with, which is upsetting. Despite the boring dialogues, they are still a delight to watch on screen.
Overall Opinion
The drama is not worth your time as it gives the audience nothing new to look forward to. To top it all, it doesn’t deliver on the core elements of the show; it almost feels pointless to watch the entirety of it. It’s not a terrible way to spend your time. If you can go in with low expectations, you might find the show entertaining enough to pass your time.
