Drama Digest

Ki Jin is a blossoming fashion design student with great dreams: he aspires to be a world-renowned clothing designer. The road to the top of South Korea’s fashion tree, however, is not simple, and he is striving to find the proper way. On the street one day, he runs upon Yeong Woo, an ever-optimistic part-time delivery worker. Even though it appears like everyone he knows has devised a big plan for how their future would unfold, Yeong Woo does not have a dream. While everyone else seems to be in a hurry to get someplace in life, it appears that his own life is stuck in first gear. Despite a rocky start, Ki Jin and Yeong Woo grow fond of one another and wonder if their seemingly opposed combination of determination and acceptance may be a case of “opposites attract.” However, when a leading model called Lee Bin appears on the scene, things become complex. He develops feelings for Ki Jin. Could this development mark the end of Ki Jin and Yeong Woo’s budding romance?

The Feel-Good Part

Behind Cut excels at telling a narrative of friendship, progress, and discovering what makes each of us happy. The two scenes that were left unexplained almost felt intentional, as if the writers were trying to say that Yeong Woo’s past with Yi Bin and Ki Jin’s reason for disappearing from Yeong Woo’s life were minor details in a much larger picture as if pointing out that we shouldn’t dwell on our mistakes and our pasts, but instead move forward after learning from those mistakes. This was just lovely.

The Disappointing Factor

Behind Cut is a dull and dreary BL series plagued by consistent mediocrity. This linear tale lacks energy, most plot twists can be predicted from a mile away, and the story unfolds gradually. Behind Cut fails to describe events or relationship dynamics effectively, creating several plot holes. The jagged storytelling is marred by a lack of context and inconsistent pacing. It outlines a mysterious past between Yeong Woo and Lee Bin but never elaborates on that. Similarly, it paints Ki Jin’s fashion profession in vague terms, rarely delving into its central premise with detail. This series pays inadequate attention to the elements that comprise its fictional universe.

In-Depth Analysis

As most know, South Korea is a homogenous society and doesn’t openly welcome a new environment. This BL drama makes you feel somewhat elated. The drama series focuses on three men with different desires and personalities. It delivers a good job of promoting inclusivity on-screen and an unconventional form of romantic love. A narrative of development follows a play in which each character begins by assisting one guy in realising his aspirations but then diverges onto three distinct pathways.

Star Power

The cast has helped it a bearable watch for viewers. The production quality was extremely ordinary, if not below average. There are several sound errors. While the plot is stretched leisurely, the actors do a very good job of setting a sufficient amount of attraction between the characters. You can’t deny that there is this unexpectedly strong chemistry between the characters for a BL drama, which is evident from the passionate kissing scenes.

Overall Opinion

If you want a short yet emotional drama full of character development, this drama is for you, albeit its meandering pace will most likely bore you.
