Drama Digest

The Japanese series is one of the most anticipated adaptations of the shoujo manga series by Hiroki Adachi. The story is about two utterly different classmates from Katagiri High School who tend to hide their real personalities. Kyoko Hori, the female lead, is a social butterfly in school. She has a friendly and open nature, attains excellent academic scores, and is very popular among the students in her school. Despite having a high social status in school, Hori at home is a different person. Her parents work a lot, and she has to look after her younger brother, Souta. She has no time to socialize and is very engaged in household chores. Izumi Miyamura, the male lead, seems to have a depressed and quiet personality in school with long dark hair, tattoo, and a lot of piercings. He has no friends, and people usually look down on him. He had a bad past which made him avoid socializing and staying alone. Outside of school, he has a fun personality with a gentle and kind heart. Although the two weren’t quite familiar, Miyamura helped Souta and accompanied him to his home. The two crossed paths with each other and were surprised to see how opposite the two were. His visits to her house increased, and they became very close in a short time. Together, they agreed to keep one another’s identities secret and assist each other. They soon fall in love and make their relationship open, which makes them face a lot of things.

The Feel-Good Part

The drama is a good rom-com. Though basic, the storyline was quite interesting. There was also a good pinch of comedy. It also implemented the message of accepting oneself and avoiding judging people.

The Disappointing Part

The drama had a basic storyline as the other anime series. There weren’t a lot of differences in this show. In one episode, the characters seemed okayish, and in the next episode, the characters seemed as dull as the storyline. There weren’t developments in the characters at all. The storyline also seemed rushed.

In-Depth Analysis

We have already seen the basic plot in many other dramas. The storyline needed work, but it wasn’t too bad of a drama either. The design of costumes and hair suited the characters exceptionally well. The starting episodes were enjoyable, but then they added dry comedy scenes and extra drama to spice things up, which didn’t work quite well. Hori helped Miyamura overcome his traumatic experiences and fit in well with his classmates. He was able to make friends, which he thought would never happen. He finally was able to enjoy high school as others did. Hori appreciated and accepted Miyamura as the way he was. She didn’t care when her friends made fun of her for dating Miyamura and instead respected him and his choices.

Star Power

The characters did a pretty good job with their roles, and their performances were quite convincing. Oji Suzuka portrayed the role of Izumi Miyamura, and Sayu Kubota played Kyoko Hori. Their chemistry was outstanding, and their roles suited them so well. Despite their differences, they got along so well. The depressed and clumsy relaxed nature of Miyamura was an excellent watch combined. Hori’s nature as an insecure and jealous girlfriend was a different thing to watch as her personality as initially, she seemed so friendly. Other characters like Ryosuke Sota, Yuki Inoue, Haruka, Yurie Kozakai, etc., did an excellent job.

Overall Opinion

The drama was basic and okayish, but it is not too bad of a drama. If you watch anime and manga series, you’ll like this one too.
