The Feel-Good Part

The show has a lot of feel-good moments. The series has some good moments, and the last few episodes work well. It was an engaging drama with a great start. The acting is modest mainly, and the series’ atmosphere is relaxed and calming.

The Disappointing Factor

There are not many disappointing factors in the show. The plot is elementary and the story lacks development. All 12 episodes follow the same story structure, which gets monotonous and repetitive. The main character is delusional but doesn’t realize this throughout the show.

In-Depth Analysis

Homeraretai Boku no Mousou Gohan tells the story of Masao Wada works for an electronics manufacturer on weekdays and plays bass in a band on weekends. The show is inspired by the life of Masao Wada, the bassist of the famous rock fusion group “Gesu no Kiwami Otome,” who goes by the stage name “Shuumatsu Kacho.” In 2018, he appeared at the end of the Netflix reality show Terrace House series “Opening New Doors,” courting one of his roommates by making conch curry. Every episode follows a basic structure. The show begins with a cold open with young employee Masao Wada at work or during band rehearsals. He then heads to a local grocery store about to close, where he meets a clerk and a warehouse boy. Coming home, he prepares a meal. At that time, a woman he recently met showed up at his apartment. She has dinner with him and praises the food, and then disappears leaving him with nothing but late-night fantasies. He then calls his childhood friend Tomoko, who works in New York. The show is about having confidence and deciding what he wants to do with his music. It’s about making important life decisions and choosing between a conventional work life and a more serious musical pursuit.
