Drama Digest

Matsumoto Shouen enters monkhood because he could not save his childhood friend who drowned right in-front of him when he was a child. Simultaneously, wanting to save lives of people who are important to him, he aspires to become a doctor. Watch the series to know how Shouen grows as a doctor, a monk and a person grappling with how he should save lives, attend to deaths and support the families of patients.

The Feel-Good Part

The story plot line itself is very unique. It’s a very realistic and human medicine drama. It showcases human emotions of how to deal with death, their weakness and the ground reality of an emergency unit. The subplots dwelt are an added plus to the series such as- one of the sub-plots is where the team showcases monks are even humans and have flaws and they even have emotions. The acting is impeccable and the music is even good. This series has a very good rewatch value; I mean this series could be watched not just once but number of times.

The Disappointing Factor

Byoshitsu De Nembutsu o Tonaenaide Kudasai is just perfect. The only issue is Byoshitsu De Nembutsu o Tonaenaide Kudasai is a very serious drama and has very few scenes that evoke any kind of comedy. It deals with plots like sadness, facing your weakness, dealing with deaths and hence people who want to see something light hearted, I won’t recommend this series to you.

In Depth Analysis

At the hospital, Shouen works as an emergency doctor, chant sutras for the deceased and even provide psychological support to the patients as a Buddhist Monk. He is disliked by both patients and his colleagues for his behaviour but he was cheerful and sincere. The series lays emphasis on Shouen’s life as how he could grow as a human being a monk and a doctor. It showcases of he helped his patients in dealing with deaths of their loved ones, how he supported them in facing their weakness. The series showcases monks are even normal humans and even they commit mistakes and this was the best theme which I loved the most from this series.

Star Power

Ito Hideaki does his role with such compassion that everyone who watches this series would for sure end up loving him. His acting was phenomenal. Muro Tsuyoshi did something different from what he usually does and he was such a pleasure to watch. Both of them had a very complex character but managed to pull it of with such ease. I feel no one else could have done these respective roles better than these two.

Overall Opinion

Byoshitsu De Nembutsu o Tonaenaide Kudasai is a very realistic drama which has phenomenal acting performance by the lead role, a very unique and engaging story line and electrifying music and last but not the least, the best sub-plots ever dwelt. I would recommend everyone to watch this series right away.
