Drama Digest

The law of physics states that like poles repel, unlike poles attract. This law is also the basis of many Mills and Boons books. The same theme is carried over into the series.

Adapted from the book Qi Shi Tian Xia, the drama is about two main characters, Hei Feng Xi, who is attractive and stylish, while Bai Feng Xi is free-spirited and beautiful.

The two characters Hei and Bai being opposites to each other but are unparalleled when it comes to intelligence and skills. They are forced into a political sensitive situation as the martial arts and political world clash, and the kingdom is in a state of unrest. During the turmoil, they fall in love.

Unfortunately, they have to keep their identities a secret, and be ahead of their enemies to ensure peace in troubled times. They also have to safeguard the imperial throne so that it does not fall into the wrong hands.

At the same time, there is an unseen force that tests their patience and wits. But as a team, they are unrivaled in insights, and take on the evil forces.

Will their love bring calm to the chaotic world and in the end, rule it?

The Feel-Good Part

The drama is filled with brilliant visuals, special effects, music and costumes. It is spectacular to watch. The chemistry between the leads is also on point.

The Disappointing Factor

The storyline is not solid and certain essential characters’ back-story are not given enough screen time. The martial arts action is also a bit of a let-down.

In-Depth Analysis

Opposites attract is oft-repeated phrase that is heard. In the series, the male and female leads are polar opposites yet when it comes to their ability to think, and be ahead of the game, they are superlative.

The leads join forces after a lot of blood-shed in their kingdom caused by greed for power in the martial and political worlds. At stake is the imperial throne, and it is up to them to ensure that it is in good hands.

Since both Hei and Bai are brilliant strategists, they have to fight the evil forces using their intelligence and wit to protect not just the kingdom but also the throne.

To do this, they have disguised themselves, and think ahead of their opponents (like a game of chess) to ensure that peace returns. Amidst these complexities is an unforeseen force that tests them.

Will their love rule the world is the series? Also, there is a surprise twist in the end.

Star Power

The male and female leads are superbly played by Yang Yang and Zhao Lu Si respectively. The supporting cast is also quite good.

Overall Opinion

A treat for all fantasy romance genre fans.
