Drama Digest

The Eight is a powerful group of 8 factions: Entertainers, Thieves, Poison, Assassins, Deception, Spies, Wisdom, and Mechanics. Hua Min Chu, a recent graduate, becomes involved in the affairs of the Eight. The Eight guild masters have been waiting for a new leader (Holder) to emerge so that they could “go legitimate” by disbanding and leaving the grey underworld economy and becoming honorable and helpful members of society. Various factions form and hatch schemes to seize control and discover the whereabouts of a rumored priceless treasure.

The Feel-Good Part

The action scenes in the drama are the most exciting out of all. They also used slow-motion techniques for extra thrilling and dramatic effects for the viewers.

The Disappointing Factor

Even though romance is a subplot of the drama, they did not explore and develop it convincingly well.

In-Depth Analysis

The setting of the drama is around the Republican era. Western powers intervened, the Qing dynasty fell, and the country was in disarray. Therefore, politics and corruption play a big part in this drama. Due to this, the formation of the Eight was to help and protect the weak. Each of the eight professions receives sufficient screen time in the drama so that viewers can get to know them. Each guild has a distinct personality, and its leaders possess various abilities. The sum of all its parts makes the drama strong. The drama incorporated the many stories into its larger overall plot. The show has action and plot twists that excite you till the end. This drama is brimming with colorful and multi-faceted characters ranging from the most mundane to the most divine. There are few villains shown who are on par with the main characters. With enough conspiracies, twists, angst, betrayals, manipulations, and numerous adventures within the carefully constructed and compelling arcs, the story is well-written, and the plot develops at an exciting pace.

Star Power

Every character has an added value to the drama, and each role is vital. Ou Hao acted as Hua Min Chu and did a great job with his roles portraying various emotions well.

Overall Opinion

It is a fun drama with lots of action and suspense. There is also a hint of romance. Highly recommend it!
