Drama Digest

Xiong Xi Ruo is a young female painter who somehow gets into the powerful Li family house to paint someone, she ends up painting their son, Li hong bin. She is in disguise.  However, while trying to escape from the house after painting, she is captured by li hong bin, who now controls her fate after seeing the picture. Xi Ruo is about to be arrested for her crime, but Li hong bin comes to her rescue and, at the moment, announces to everyone that Rou is pregnant with his child and they both are about to marry. Li hong bin devised this plan because his family was about to marry him off to the heiress of a wealthy family and he hated having an arranged marriage. The li family gives their permission and blessings to their son to marry Ruo, but soon their plan starts falling apart as the neighbours and relatives start speculating that Xi Ruo is not pregnant at all and this was all a scheme. Meanwhile, both our leads spend more time together and get to know each other, which could result in love.

The Feel-Good Part

I like that it is an easy watch and you do not have to be deeply involved in it to figure out what is going on on the screen. The cinematography is beautiful, the actors have done an okay job.

The Disappointing Factor

Some viewers may find the storyline boring or repetitive. While it is not unique or refreshing, many stereotypical and cliched scenes are typically present in Chinese dramas.

In-Depth Analysis

The series focuses on a girl who likes to paint. She decides one day to paint the portrait of a guy of a noble family, spoiler alert, it is a graphic nude portrait, we skip forward to the leads getting into a contract marriage, a trope that is funnily close to my heart but this show did not make me enjoy it. Of course, our leads will fall in love and the show ends happily. The cinematography of this show is beautiful and I do believe the costumes are era-appropriate; however, the lack of uniqueness and the stereotypically cliched scenes have managed to be the doom of the storyline. The female lead did a good job while the other actors looked forced.

Star Power

The female lead acted reasonably, the other actors seem to be the cause of the show’s fall, aside from the doomed storyline.

Overall Opinion

Overall, the theme behind the show has been kept well. It is a historical romance and you get it with all its cliches and exaggerated scenes. It is not the best show out there but it is a fun light watch if you do not have better things to do.
