Drama Digest

Cheng Yi and Ling Zi Ming are childhood buddies from two incomplete households. Zi Ming has lived with his second eldest maternal aunt since his childhood. Grandmother of Cheng Yi raises him. Because they came from similar families, the two boys supported each other emotionally. However, as they approached adolescence, their psyche changed dramatically. The lads are very young and have no concept of love. Despite their best efforts to become closer, they become increasingly distanced from one another.

The Feel-Good Part

With a low budget, they did a great job portraying the difficulties and dilemmas of gay romance. Many scenes are very heartwarming and lovely to watch.

The Disappointing Factor

There are a few toxic ideas about a relationship which is misleading to some viewers. Even the aggressive scene in the drama is something hard to digest.

In-Depth Analysis

This show is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Li Yun Ming. It is a beautiful love story presented allegorically through the lives of two ordinary lads. They are inextricably linked and eventually become soulmates. Some ideas can be very repulsive, but the symbolic meaning is what you need to look at to enjoy and understand this show. The story of the drama is not new and different, but the way they shot the scenes is a beautiful visual experience. LGBTQ+ is not a very welcoming community in China. It is hard for people to accept it, not just in China. The drama demonstrates how difficult it is for gays to navigate and follow because of external forces such as societal, cultural, and governmental constraints. The show will make you very emotional and give you a sense of how difficult it is for them.

Star Power

Hu Bo Wen (Ling Zi Ming) and Hu Shi Wen (Cheng Yi) were perfectly cast for the roles. They did a great job and displayed beautiful chemistry till the end. Their acting elevated the story.

Overall Opinion

It is a sweet love story, but it may not be everyone’s cup of tea!
