Drama Digest

What does it mean to be a woman in the modern world? What does it mean to be a woman in the era of ‘her’? In this busy world filled with a fast-paced life, what does it mean to be a woman? Her World aims to answer those questions and explore the life of the modern-day woman. The drama follows urban women in this women-centric era and how they balance various facets of their life and the toll it takes on them both physically, mentally, and emotionally. It is not as easy as it seems. We look at marriage, career, love, and hate in their daily life. We look at their essential business strategies and decisions, their lives outside of the office, their relationships and how they make time for them, and how their various aspects of life affect them. How do they live their lives? Watch this drama as Ai Yang and Ying Xiao Mei explore these aspects of life and try to find themselves.

The Feel-Good Part

Being a woman in the modern world is not easy, but it is not a constant struggle. The show can strike a perfect balance. We can see a well-rounded world of a woman in business. There is a lot she goes through, and we are taken on that journey from 9 to 5 and beyond. The portrayal of women in this drama is exquisite. Our leads are not portrayed as 2-dimensional characters but rather build and grow throughout the drama. It is a great watch, and then we wish to root for these characters and everything they do just to make sure they are happy and receive everything they want no matter what.

The Disappointing Factor

While the drama does manage to showcase a well-rounded woman, there are instances where it leans too heavily into the romance aspects, and it takes away from the exceptional female characters. Whether or not that bothers you depends on how you look at powerful women. In essence, there is a lot that the drama could have explored but did not. Its 30-episode runtime should have been enough to explore various aspects of womanhood and urban life but they do not. Aside from their explored facets and inability to truly balance the romance and drama aspects of the show, it still manages to do well.

In-Depth Analysis

Being a girl boss has moved past being an aspirational lifestyle. The idea of being a well-rounded woman depends on each person. The show feels a bit unrelatable and distant because there is not a variety of women surviving the urban world. If the drama explored womanhood at a certain age in various aspects, it would have been more rounded. More often than not it feels formulaic. However, if you can look past that, you are in for a good exploration of corporate women and their lifestyles.

Star Power

iQiYi has released some great romance dramas. Some of their best offerings include Above the Clouds, Married But Available, Love Lies, A Taiwanese Tale of Two Cities, Sanatorium For Love, and more. There is a lot that this drama has to offer. It is worth checking out as it has a lot to say about the complexity and greatness of womanhood in the modern urban world.
