Drama Digest
The story revolves around a young girl named Shiva who lives on the other side in an abandoned village. The world was split into two parts, the Inside and the Outside. Those living in both realms are forbidden to cross over to the other side and, if done, will be cursed. The lost little girl named Shiva is from the Inside. She meets an Outsider who was a demonic beast by appearance. He was known as “Teacher”, and both of them started developing a mutual friendship and coexisting on the same side of the forest. The two were forbidden to touch, but they seem to share a bond that surpasses their contrasting appearances. Later, Shiva leaves the Teacher’s care to search for her grandmother. And the secret behind her existence comes to light.
The Feel-Good Part
This short movie is a story of pure innocence surrounded by evil. The visuals were mesmerizing. The way they showed the character’s inner feelings in the form of a dream, was incredible. The detailing of the show makes you understand every aspect using pictures only blended with two contrasting colors, white for the mortal and black for the evil.
The Disappointing Part
There are certainly no disappointing factors for this movie besides the fact that it’s short.
In-Depth Analysis
The two realms of the land are viz. The Inside and The Outside. The Outside was roamed by theriomorphic creatures. They had the power to curse the ones they touched. Humans habituated the Inside. The story is a folktale about two characters -one human, another inhuman. They tarry in the twilight that separates night from day. Shiva, a young girl, is abandoned in The Outside, in a forest filled with beasts. She meets one of them who is much nicer than the others and calls him Teacher. The teacher tells Shiva that her aunt is coming to pick her up, but in reality, Shiva’s “auntie,” as mentioned, was the one who abandoned her. She runs away to find her auntie. The soldiers from the human world outside the forest find her and take her to be a monster. The teacher saves her but many questions arise in Shiva’s mind. One day, at midnight, Shiva awakens to find that a beast, planning to curse her, has entered the house. The beast touches her and inflicts its curse on her. The teacher gets rid of the beast. That night in her dream Shiva sees that she is searching for her auntie and her arm turning into a black, webbed claw.
Star Power
The classic style of animation fits the best for the show. The animators did a great job in showcasing the art along with the story.
Overall Opinion
Overall, it’s a great anime to watch, mainly because it does not require much investment. It is filled with a lot of emotions, and shows a bond formed between two different creatures from different realms.
