Anime Digest
Shinigami Bocchan to Kuro Maid is a Japanese anime with the English title of The Duke of Death and His Maid, also alternatively known as Young Master of the Grim Reaper and the Black Maid. The anime’s plotline tells the story of a cursed young duke whose touch can kill every living being. He lives in isolation, in a forest accompanied by his butler and a flirtatious maid. The more attracted he feels toward his maid, Alice, the more frustrated he becomes. His frustration acts as his motivation to break his curse.
The Feel-Good Part
Being a rom-com genre anime, The Duke of Death and His Maid has an ample amount of scenes that feel good to watch. There are a lot of cute moments which will surely cater to the fans of the rom-com genre. The love that grows between the duke and Alice is pretty wholesome to watch as there is no selfish motive from either of them. The mystery surrounding the curse is pretty intriguing too. The chemistry between these two characters is solid and evident. The soundtrack is pleasing to the ears and suits the overall theme of the anime.
The Disappointing Factor
Many fans who have already seen the anime would agree that the CGI used is not up to the mark and could have been better. The series, at some point becomes repetitive which will disappoint many. Considering that The Duke of Death and His Maid was adapted from a manga of the same name, many would agree that the anime wouldn’t fully pay justice to the manga.
Star Performance
Voice actress Ayumi Mano plays the character of Alice, and Natsuki Hanae plays the character of Duke of Death. Hiroshi Kamiya plays the character of Zain, Houchu Ohtsuka plays the character of Rob, Inori Minase plays the role of Viola, Wakana Kuramochi plays the role of Caph, Yuma Uchida plays the role of Walter, etc. The anime was directed by Yoshiki Yamakawa.
Overall Opinion
The anime is rather decent and wholesome to watch, the gradual character development makes the anime a very decent watch. Though the story progress is pretty slow-paced and the animation is not up to the mark, other than these factors, The Duke and His Maid is an interesting and exciting anime to watch. There will also be a season 2, which will release in 2023, so there’s more story progress that will be depicted in season 2.
