Anime Digest

A studious student and a social media influencer virtually have nothing in common and no reason to be linked. Everything changes for the two of them as they find out from their families that they were switched at birth. The parents quickly devise a plan to right this wrong. Their proposition is that they should be switched back to their original families to restore balance. They also expect them to get engaged in order to keep everyone happy. When the two of them find out about this plan, they vehemently refuse to go along with. Will the nature of their relationship change based on their familiesโ€™ conditions, or will it be fate that brings them together.

The Feel-Good Part

The protagonists of the show are likable and easy to relate to. They are compelling and have enough depth to carry the story and keep the audience interested in the plot and their growth as characters. The animation style of the show is great and remains to be the highlight of the show as it is visually pleasing and adds a lot of fun elements to the show, which makes the viewing experience entertaining. It also provides for an immersive experience.

The Disappointing Factor

The story is pretty clichรฉ and doesnโ€™t stray away from the common plot-points of this genre, which makes it predictable and may make it boring to watch. The characters donโ€™t seem like well-written characters as they feel like archetypes of teenagers rather than fully-fledged capable of development, which is quite disappointing. It feels like itโ€™s written by someone who has a very shallow idea of teens and how they look at the world. The plot is interesting but too predictable to have any real value. The dialogues are a major let-down as they feel artificial and too simplistic, which gets annoying and frustrating quite early on. While the protagonists are alright, they lack the charm to carry the story convincingly. The anime series also drags on quite a bit, which seems unnecessary and affects the consistency of the pacing significantly, which may make viewers drop the show early on.

In-Depth Analysis

The series gets a lot more wrong than it get right, which is why it is not the kind of show people will sit on the edge of their seats for. It feels like a show you put on more background noise as it doesnโ€™t make a compelling case for itself. The writing is weak and so is the execution. It isnโ€™t bad by any means, its just disappointing as it suffers from missed opportunities. The characters can come off as lack-lustre, which doesnโ€™t leave much for the audience to grab onto in order to continue watching.

Star Power

All the performances are great.

Overall Opinion

Kakkou no Iinazuke is not a show that is worth your time as it doesnโ€™t tell its core story well, which is important to engage the audience. It makes for a frustrating viewing experience, rather than an entertaining one. It isnโ€™t a show that is easy to watch because of its pace. There are many better on-going anime series that are more worthy of your time, hence this one is an easy skip.
