Anime Digest

The second season of Xian Wang De Richang Shenghuo with the English title The Daily Life of the Immortal King is the story of Wang Ling. Outside he looks like a typical sixteen-year-old teenager but what he’s hiding underneath are his powers which he has yet to learn to control. After defeating the shadow assassin in the first season, he now has a worse battle in front of him, high school.

The Feel-Good Part

The fight scenes are the best part of the show. The dialogues are good most of the time. The plot, and the main idea of the anime are refreshing. The main characters are well written. It makes it easier to root for them. The high school setting makes the characters a little more relatable. The comedic parts are enough to lighten the overall mood of the anime.

The Disappointing Part

The background music in the show is a let-down. It is a fantasy setting and music helps to create the environment, but this was missing for Xian Wang De Richang Shenghuo. Sometimes, the main character’s interaction with the side characters felt much more forced and unnecessary.

In-Depth Analysis

Xian Wang De Richang Shenghuo basis itself on a novel of the same name. Wang Ling and Su Rong, our leads, fight through various challenges from Monsters, politicians, and every other person trying to destroy the world. The first season focused more on Wang Ling and his character development, but this season instead focuses on a lot of smaller issues. The side characters have storylines to make the show more dynamic, but they don’t serve any purpose other than providing our hero a fighting cause. Some of the filler scenes almost seem irrelevant to the story. The first season offered a lot more intense and emotionally engaging characters compared to this season, which may not be a good sign with the announcement of the third season. But still, the main characters are layered and thus likable. Wang Ling wanted to keep his powers a secret and lead a quiet high school life. This season’s ending was a lot more predictable and anti-climactic. The quality of art and storytelling has gone down from the first season but it’s not entirely a gone case.  It reminds me of Peter Parker hiding his Spider-Man powers, and we all know how that came together. Overall, the anime still has hope if they go with the style they used in the first season.

Star Power

Wang Ling is the star of the show, His powers and character development since the first season is something that keeps you hooked on the show. He does have plot armor, but it was pretty clear that his powers are near-invincible.

Overall Opinion

Xian Wang De Richang Shenghuo is a fantasy anime based on a teen with powers he still hasn’t learned to control. While the trope does sound overused, the characters are written with a complexity that makes them relatable. This season may not have been the best in the show but it wasn’t a total kill. The only issue is that we keep getting introduced to new side characters and new villains, which doesn’t provide the consistent threat or camaraderie the viewers can hope for. Overall, the drama still provides a fresh perspective, and if you’re new to the anime world, it would be an excellent choice for a fantasy drama with comedic relief.
