Drama Digest

The government has set up the NEET protection program to solve specific social issues of unemployed young adults, low birth rate, aging population, etc. The NEET protection program pairs a civil servant with a NEET person to marry. Himari Sawamoto and Shin Akiyasu get together through this program as the first trial subjects; Shin is looking at it as another job assignment, whereas Himari is entirely unaware of being signed up! Now, it is up to Shin to win her over as part of his job. The series progresses to find out whether the NEET Protection Law succeeds.

The Feel-Good Part

Even while living in an arranged marriage setup, Shin and Himari have respect for each other, which gives you hope. Their love has a good foundation, with no big expectations. Everything seems to happen naturally. They grow to care for each other honestly and become a family.

The Disappointing Factor

The first half comes out much stronger than the second half. But the second half seems bearable enough. There are no villains, a jealous ex or a love triangle, and no misunderstandings- if that is the kind of drama you are currently looking to watch. On the other hand, because the series is so short, some elements weren’t explained enough or explored enough, for example, the struggles at the beginning of a marriage. The acceptance from Himari and the falling in love with the male lead seem to be happening too fast- setting a contradictory tone. In addition, the side characters do not have a storyline of their own.

In-Depth Analysis

The relationship builds up slowly as they take their time to get to know each other, to start having feelings for each other. Therefore, the series is an absolute delight to watch, with lots of adorable little moments and a smoothly developing chemistry between the couple. The whole setup forms a cozy and warm environment where the characters open up, having a chance to build their character while warming up to each other and slowly falling in love.

Star Power

Kumada Rinka is extremely cute with an infectious smile. Marry Me! is her first drama, but she is excellent with acting and a definite scene-stealer.

Seto Toshiki is known for Kamen Rider Ex-Aid: True Ending (2017) and Kamen Rider Generations. He does a great job presenting a subtle yet required character development for his role.

Overall Opinion

Marry me! is a story with an arranged marriage trope, good-looking leads, and a gentle love theme. It is full of romance and wholesomeness. Their love story does not have misunderstandings or hot-headed drama, making it a perfect watch on a relaxed afternoon.
