Also known as ‘The Man Who Stood Up To America’ is a biography directed by Setsurô Wakamatsu illustrating the life of the former Prime Minister of Japan Yoshida Shigeru. Formerly, he was Japan’s ambassador to Great Britain and later resigned from his position as an act of defiance to the Antikomintern Pact. Shigeru along with his businessman friend Shirasu Jiro was concerned and very uneasy with how the situation was unrolling back in their homeland. Even though he took all the necessary measures to avoid a war situation from happening his efforts did not result to be fruitful as Japan participated in the WW II. After the termination of this gruesome bloodshed, Yoshida Shigeru fought for Japan’s independence from American Allied forces by first becoming the Foreign Minister and later on by becoming the Prime Minister of Japan. Witness the journey of Yoshida Shigeru as he fights for the freedom and peace of Japan.

The Feel-Good Part

From the cinematography to the acting everything is up to the mark. The screenplay is made by keeping in mind the gravity of the situation at that time. The depiction of the struggles faced by Prime Minister Yoshida Shigeru is highly appreciable. The story is capable of completely engrossing you in the drama.

Biographies are not everyone’s cup of tea. It is a serious drama that solely focuses on the history, politics, and the life of Yoshida Shigeru.

Setsurô Wakamatsu directed the show so well that one could truly feel the extremity of the situation during that period and the determination of Yoshida Shigeru to bring about peace in Japan. It is a very knowledgeable narrative. The way this leader of Japan handled hardships is commendable.
