Drama digest

The intricacy of human nature is fleshed out by an unsolved murder that leaves a family to live with the agony of losing their daughter.

For the past 19 years, the “pavilion case” involving the terrible murder of a female student has remained unresolved. The Xuan family’s lives are cloaked in mystery as they alienate one another over persistent concerns. When the killer strikes again, the family’s memories of the past plunge them into the depths of love and hatred once again.

The feel-good part

Ultimately, the case’s resolution allowed the entire family and community to grow, evolve, and accept things, allowing them to heal and finally putting Xuan Zhen’s lingering grievances to rest.

The disappointing factor

The issue is that in comparison to such complex and fascinating depictions, the young actress who plays both Xuan Zhen and Nianmei is overshadowed, and her portrayal appears far less attractive than it is.

It doesn’t help that neither character are intended to be compassionate in the first place. Also, the suspense thriller elements of this drama fall flat miserably.

In-depth analysis

The Xuan family’s angelic sister was mysteriously murdered 19 years ago. For many years, the homicide case remained unsolved, and the perpetrator remained at large. As a result, the Xuan family members spread out from north to south, everyone living independently. Nineteen years later, a strange case in a small city entangles the Xuan family once again, forcing the dispersed family members to meet in their homeland. Years of a battle between the anguished brothers and sisters erupted as the reality of the classic case became increasingly evident.

Misty Theatre’s drama presentation is not a straightforward crime drama. In addition to the mystery, deduction, and other elements of prior crime dramas, it may lay emphasis on the fundamental aspects of human character.

Star power

The most pleasing element of this drama is the outstanding veteran ensemble, which gives performances that much surpass the brilliance of the script and the logic of the plot. Their powerful acting emphasizes how they, the survivors, are the genuine victims of the crime, as they are all haunted by the thought that Xuan Zhen might still be alive if they had done things differently.

Overall opinion

Even if this is a forgettable suspense thriller, it’s tough to give it a low rating given its power as a family drama and the all-star cast’s outstanding performances.
