This Chinese drama is entirely based on the ancient period. It tells the story of an ancient civilization whose name was the ‘Loulan civilization.’ the proof of this civilization is discovered by a young archaeologist in the form of a bronze mirror. The movie tries to uncover the truth behind the various incidents taken place in the Loulan civilization. The title of the movie comes from its ghostly elements, which were the legends from those times. In order to find out the truth behind all the stories concerning Loulan, the protagonist sets out on a mission.

The Feel-Good Part

The movie expresses itself by switching between two parallel timelines which are done fantastically. The pacing of the movie is appreciative and depicts all the elements interestingly. It is available in various national and local languages, which is an applaudable aspect. The vibe and aesthetics of the movie are impressive as they depict the ancient Chinese era.

The Disappointing Factor

The story starts off pretty vague. The sequences are unclear during the beginning, and it is difficult to know their purpose. The film duration is shorter than expected. The music is not as engaging and suspenseful as it should have been. Some storylines seem dumb and unnecessary to the movie. There are some supporting characters who are annoying. The female lead comes out as a disappointment as well because of how her character was written.

A young archaeologist, Wu Tian, discovers an ancient artifact in a desert. The artifact is a bronze mirror. He later learned that the artifact belonged to an ancient Chinese civilization called the ‘Loulan civilization.’ This civilization vanished years ago and hasn’t been revived since. After researching the artifact for a bit, he realizes its importance and aims to protect it from foreign tomb raiders. He grows curious day by day about the mirror and decides to discover the truth behind it. He learns that there is an infamous ‘ghost army’ legend that comes from this civilization. Wu Tian has always been a passionate person who takes his work seriously and does it with utmost effort. The ghost army legend is as terrifying as it may seem. It’s been a mystery for several years, and now that an artifact of that time has been discovered, many eyes, both good and bad, are on it. As a result, the young and sincere Wu tian sets out on a mission to uncover the truth about this civilization and prevent it from falling into the hands of the enemies. In this quest, he receives support from some other characters as well. This is his story of finding out the truth behind the terrifying legend of the ghost army.

Star Power

The infamous Chinese actors Liu Chang and Wa Er, are a part of the drama. Though the drama disappointed in some ways, their acting was still decent.

The movie is a combination of ancient Chinese heritage as well as science fiction that most people enjoy. The movie succeeds in keeping the audience on their toes and keeping their interest throughout. Even though the movie has done a decent job, it’s most likely not a recommended one from the audience’s perspective.
