The lady in the movie plays the role of the mother, says the writer/director Park-Suk Young, and how women are unable to break free from society’s labels. Youngboon is the exact representation of a woman without those titles. Park Suk-young has masterfully crafted the film with little moments like this where he has allowed a purposely prolonged pause over every letter, which contains nearly all the exposition the movie ever offers. The way Youngboon is indecisive about what to do with the letter’s contents and disposes of the provided business card in an unromantic manner speaks volumes about her character. Hanhee’s character contrasts with that of her mother. Hanhee has a positive outlook towards life. She does not despise her mother. Whereas, Youngboon has perpetual remorse from the past. “The Hill of Wind” reframes the mysterious nature of their odd interpersonal reactions as a potent lifeline, demonstrating how even little talks may have exhilaratingly beneficial spiritual outcomes.
