Movie Digest

Kyouko Hori and Izumi Miyamura are opposites. Hori is the popular one at school, while Miyamura is not so popular. Both have another side of them that they hide from their schoolmates. Hori has to take care of her house when her parents are out working. Miyamura, although he looks like a nerd, he is not good at studying. He also has an astonishing side. Hori and Miyamura meet outside the school unexpectedly. They gradually become closer to each other. Watch the movie to see how it unfolds.

The Feel-Good Part

The title gives a hint of Hori and Miyamura becoming close. If not noticed already, Horimiya is a combination of Hori and Miyamura. The movie is the live-action version of a popular anime series of the same name. The live-action makes one feel the emotions more. The storyline is quite alluring. There are comedy scenes too that are amusing. The movie makes one miss their school life and gives a sense of nostalgia. The scenes are played well by the actors. The young actors playing the lead cast give accuracy to the characters.

The Disappointing Factor

The length of the movie is not sufficient. The ending seems hurried. Hori’s family does not have much screen time. Fewer side characters are making the story centered only upon the lead characters. There is less scope for the romance between Hori and Miyamura.

In-Depth Analysis

Everyone has a side that they wish to hide from others. The movie tries to show the same. Hori and Miyamura seem to be opposite to each other initially. Later they find they are more similar to each other than different. It shows that everyone finds such a person in their life as life goes on. Hori’s seemingly casual character has more to it than meets the eye. She has more responsibilities and has to look after her brother when her parents are not home. On the other hand, Miyamura looks reserved and shy at school. In reality, he is just concealing his tattoos and piercings to maintain his image of a nerd. It shows that he doesn’t like being the center of attraction. Such people exist in real life who don’t like attention but enjoy things unique to them that generally draw attention to them. The story is about opening up to the ones you trust. The movie has more concepts with deeper meanings like this.

Star Power

Sayu Kubota plays Kyouko Hori and Oji Suzuka plays Izumi Miyamura. The acting skills of the cast give a good texture to the movie. They have portrayed their roles well.
