TV Show Digest

When we step out for dinner, we are excited to eat in a reputed restaurant as it indicates either a celebration or a special occasion or a holiday.

We read the reviews, talk to people who have already eaten there before, plan the evening, and perhaps also choose the dishes that we plan to eat.

For us, the best restaurant is associated with the best dining experience be it a Michelin star or a famous chef who is at the helm. The excitement is infectious and contagious.

But what about the lesser-known ones who are located just next to the best? These smaller restaurants are often forgotten. Their food might be as good or even better than the best. What would it take us to eat there?

The series explores these hidden gems located in Korea and each one is situated next to a well-known eatery. The hosts such as Kim Gu Ra, Lee Jin Ho, and Lee Jang Joon not just visit but also eat and chat with the owners.

It is a novel take on dining and also introduces the audience to these awesome eat-outs and watering holes.

The Feel-Good Part

The interactions with the owners are heartening. To hear their history and experiences. Each story tugs the heart.

The show’s theme is a new take wherein they look beyond the restaurant. The hosts have done a fabulous job in not just visiting the restaurant and eating there but also bringing a personal connection with the owner.

The cinematography is non-intrusive wherein the owners and their people do not feel that they are being captured on camera.

The Disappointing Factor

None

In-Depth Analysis

If you are a gourmand (someone who likes to eat) then eating out either in the best or lesser-known restaurants is an experience as long as the food is good.

Frequently, in our fascination to dine in the best restaurants or drink in the premier bars, we forget about their lesser-known siblings who are located next to them.

These restaurants are the hidden gems that are not reviewed or featured in the media. Since they are located next to the famous ones, they are not considered even by the public.

But the show intends to change the perception. The hosts not just visit and eat but also chat with the owners to bring out their version to the public. It is a nice twist to the ongoing culinary shows.

In one of the episodes, Kang Hye Won (a famous K singer) hosts it and she is overwhelmed by the experience. It links famous K celebrities with these jewels resulting in an emotional and heartfelt involvement with not just food but also the people running it.

Some of them are family-owned businesses and the cooks (not chefs), the staff, and the owner of these gems are just as passionate.

In the end, be it the best or the shop next to it, food wins.

Star Power

The true star is the hidden jewels which are the neighboring restaurants next to the famous ones. The stories are powerful yet heartwarming.

Overall Opinion

If you are a foodie, then it is a must-watch. Even if you are not, please do watch it for its newness.
