TV Show Digest

It is a live script reading program where Hideto Iwai, a famous director and leader of a theatrical company, invites many performers to act in a script reading. It is an impromptu challenge for the actors to perform raw without prior rehearsal as it can bring their natural talent out. On the performance day, the actors get tested for their quick responses after handing out the scripts to the actors. The actors only have one chance and one night to make the name as dynamic roles created are intertwined through actors, scripts and the director. Can actors pull this challenge off without crumbling, or will their skill shine through their performances be seen in this show?

The Feel-Good Part

This show provides live performances from many members with the confidence to showcase their talent without a chance to practice. It is a different concept which brings out the naturally talented performers. The theatre experience and live reading bring authenticity to the show. It brings out excitement and curiosity to watch the different roles performed in various styles suited to the actors. The scenes are also beautifully written, which compliments well to the actors. The stage settings are raw and dimmed to focus more on the performers. On-the-spot reading of some scenes is fun and light-hearted to watch as the cast tries to make sense of the scripts. The characters are also randomly given to the contestants, who bring out some hilarious dialogue deliveries with an enjoyable time.

The Disappointing Factor

The show provides long episodes that can get a bit dull at times. As the concept is to have a script reading, it might not visually appease many of the audience. Even though the show presents a great idea, it lacks some seasoning to keep the audience interested.

In-Depth Analysis

Ikinari Honyomi is a secret project with a simple script reading program documented with a live audience. This project captures the essence of theatres in modern days through the eyes of the actors alone. Each episode’s new cast performs with a different script to skim through as the actors interpret and present their instinctive talent on stage without any directions, sound effects, or lighting. The performers are not allowed to know the contents of their script beforehand, which brings excitement and anxiety to them. While the readings are taking place, they also provide voice modulations, hand gestures, and facial expressions required in the performances.

Star Power

The producer and director of this show are Hideto Iwai and the original network of WOWOW. The lead members are Kamiki Ryunosuke, Matsu Takako, Goto Takenori, and Ohkuri Koji.

Overall Opinion

This show provides a unique idea, which got carried well because of the spectacular performers. It is entertaining and enlightening to watch this show. If the audiences are interested in focusing more on the acting performance rather than other qualities, they can definitely, give it a try.
