Movie Digest

To My Star is a South Korean movie that was released in 2021. The movie tells the story of a once popular actor, Kang Seo Joon, who has been in a downward spiral in recent times, thus losing his popularity. He meets Han Ji Woo, who is a young chef. The two of them have contrasting personalities, yet this doesn’t stop them from falling in love with each other. Kang Seo Joon believes that his fortune has changed since meeting and falling in love with Han Ji Woo. The relationship, however, doesn’t flow smoothly as eventually their different personalities conflict. While Kang Seo Joon is free-spirited Han Ji Woo, on the other hand, is more conservative, resulting in a different outlook on love and life.

The Feel-Good Part

There are very few South Korean movies and series focusing on the LGBTQ community, so this movie is a blessing for the fans. The chemistry between the main lead is compelling, and the storyline was good too. The development of the relationship between the two lead characters was depicted nicely incorporating the true-blue romantic-comedy element of ‘opposite attract’. One of the best parts about To My Star is also its cinematography, the frame of each scene was aesthetically shot, with beautiful locations.

The Disappointing Factor

There are some loopholes in the writing of the plot, which are not major but definitely illogical and avoidable. There are no proper explanations and reasoning in some scenes which will confuse the viewers.

In-Depth Analysis

To My Star is the movie version of the mini-drama sharing the same title, with the same cast. The story of the movie is quite a simple one, but well-executed. The acting of the two male leads was compelling and natural. The chemistry between the leads is very much evident right from the start of the movie when the characters were not romantically involved. The pace of the development of the relationship between the characters was perfect and was not at all rushed.

Star Power

To My Star is directed by Hwang Da Seul. Son Woo Hyun plays the role of Kang Seo Joon and Kim Kang Min plays the role of Han Ji Woo. The supporting casts include actors such as Ko Jae Hyun as Kim Hyung Ki, Jeon Jae Yeong as Kim Phil Hyun, Kim Jin Kwon as Baek Ho Min, and Han Ji Won as Lee Yoon Seul. Actor Jo Han Joon had a guest role as Seo Joon’s friend Yang In Woo. The lead of the movie, Son Woo Hyun is also the music composer of the movie.

Overall Opinion

To My Star is the movie version of the drama, there is no difference between the two. In case, if you are wondering whether there is a difference between the two, there is none. The movie is mostly a compilation of all the episodes. The plotline is very lighthearted and will leave you feeling all fluffy. The cute chemistry between the two leads is extraordinary and feels good to watch on-screen. Overall, would surely recommend you to watch this movie because of its simple and cute plotline.
