Movie Digest
Taoist Master: Kylin is a quick shot sequel to the Fan Siu Wong starrer Taoist Master released only a few months ago. The story once again centres around Zhang Daoling, a Chinese religious leader and the founder of the Way of the Celestial Masters’ Sect of Taoism. Along with his disciple, Master Zhang reaches a village set at the base of Mount Yun Jing. There are rumours that hunters or villagers who lose their way or stumble into the mountain for whatever reason are punished by Kylin, the legendary mountain god.
The Feel Good Part
The movie is entertaining and filled with supernatural effects. A good watch for an audience enthusiastic about the Taoist philosophies of ancient China.
The Disappointing Part
The movie terribly lacked in the action scenes which was one of the strong grounds for the first movie’s popularity. The plot ends up falling in the category of generic supernatural movies. Also, the refreshing presence of the character of Hong Ying, a feisty huntress in the Taoist Master was thoroughly felt.
In-Depth Analysis
It is a fantasy movie with the plot revolving around Zhang Daoling, one of the founders of Taoist ideologies and his face-off with Kylin, the much feared mountain god of Mount Yun Jing.
Star Power
Fan Siu Wong does an incredible job as Zhang Daoling and brings appreciable gravitas to the character. His presence carries the movie through its rough patches.
Overall Opinion
