Biography: Lee-Song Hee-il

Lee Song Hee-il is counted among the most incredible South Korean film directors. He has given a number of astonishing works to the industry. He was born on January 1 1971 in South Korea. He was raised in the former country only. He did his schooling at one of the prestigious schools of the country, i.e. Dongam High School. Later, he continued his education and studied filmmaking at the Independent Film Society. He released several short films in the independent movie group “Youth Film” between the period of 1995 to 2000. Lee commenced his career’s journey via the short film titled, “Everyday like a Sunday” (1998), and made short films. In 2000, he released one of his excellent works, “Sugar Hill” which was showcased at the Vancouver International Film Festival and the International Short Film Festival in Vancouver. Some of his other notable works include “Good Romance” (2001), “Say that you want to fuck with me” (2003). Lee gained immense popularity at the of his film, “No Regret” (2006), which is considered as “the first real Korean gay feature.” It received colossal love from viewers around the world and was highly appreciated by the superior directors as well.

In addition, it was also premiered at the 11th International Film Festival in Pusan and was selected by numerous international film festivals like Berlin International Film Festival and the International Film Festival. Not only this, Lee was honored with the title of Best Independent Film Director at the 2006 Director’s Cut Awards. Leesong has declared himself openly as gay. His credit list is quite commendable, as he has given his contribution to the film industry wholeheartedly. Few of his works as director consist of “Break Away” (2010), “Going South” (2012), “Suddenly, Last Summer” (2012), “White Night” (2012), and “Night Flight” (2014). Lee has even worked as a screenwriter on some movies such as “One Night and Two Days”(2012), “Break” (2009), “No Regret” (2006), and “Camellia Project: Three Queer Stories at Bogil Island” (2005).
